DOLL TOYS
In our efforts to keep dolly busy and out of mischief, we must remember the old adage “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy”. So, let us not forget to provide games and toys to keep our dolls entertained and educated.
There are many types of antique toys that go well with dolls. Penny toys and Frozen Charlottes are the perfect size for smaller dolls. Many antique stuffed animals come in a variety of sizes and also make good companions for dolls of all sizes. Additionally there are pull toys and rocking horses available in many sizes, and they make lovely toys to keep our dolls out of mischief. Doll and baby-sized rattles, made of every material imaginal are easily found. Marottes also can also be found in a variety of sizes. These baby toys consist of a doll's upper body and head attached to a stick. When the stick is rolled between the hands, marottes often make a musical sound, and the doll clothing swings about in a way to capture a baby's attention.
It is nice, when possible, to match the era of the toy to the era of the doll. These toys, along with games and puzzles can be found online, at auctions, at garage sales, and in antique shops. Toy and doll shows are excellent sources of lovely toys from many eras.
