c. 1840 - c1938
Gebruder Heubach was a firm in Lichten, Germany, owned by the Heubach Family. The time period varies according to sources. Some say 1840-1925. Others list 1843-1938. It is best known for bisque dolls and doll heads. They also made bisque figurines, piano babies, beginning in the 1880s, and glazed figurines (such as half dolls) in the 1900s.
The company was fortunate to be located near an art school, and made use of the talented artists and sculptors.
Gebrüder Heubach doll marks; the word Heubach inside a square or quadrant, a Sunburst symbol, a triangle with initials ALS, a cloverleaf symbol. (Gebruder Heubach, Heubach)
Although the Heubach company was not as prolific in the production of half dolls as some other companies, the ones they produced are particularly beautiful. They are especially know for their Biedermeier Girls and also one of the most beautiful chocolatiers girls that look very much like the Baker's Chocolate Lady. The Biedermeier period does not refer to the era of time as a whole, but to a particular mood and) set of trends that grew out of the unique underpinnings of the time in central Europe.
