Comes with the iPad. Can purchase books from the iBooks store and download directly to your ipad. If you change devices - just sync new (Apple) device to your itunes store and all the books will download there. |
Kindle |
Amazon's Kindle is the 800 lb. gorilla in the industry. You have to download the app to your ipad - but once you have done that, it is easy to download the titles to the app - even if you also use a Kindle eReader. |
Nook |
Barnes and Noble's entry into the fray. As of Nov. 2011, still probably the most library-friendly choice. Kindle will soon be more library-oriented. |
Overdrive |
Download this app on your device, and you will be able to download ebooks for free from subscriber libraries. The maximum time you have to read them is 21 days - and then they disappear into the ether like Cinderella's ball gown. |
Biblion |
Download this app. New York State residents can apply for a New York City Public Library card. It will be mailed to you. From there, you will have access to the NY City ebook Overdrive collection. |
Adobe eBook Platform |
