Applications that allow people to network based on common interests. Facebook is the most famous application. You can form professional networks with colleagues all over the world. You can also set up a personal learning network for your classes, which can be kept local OR can be extended to other classrooms around the world.

Keep in mind, there ARE sites that are safe for your students to use. Twitter and Facebook might not be encouraged or even available in your libraries. Facebooks & Twitter can be terrific tools for you to use professionally to share with others in the library world. Many public libraries now have Facebook and Twitter pages to alert their patrons about upcoming events.
